Derrick Morgan

Derrick Morgan is a Jamaican singer, deejay, writer, composer, and producer known for his contributions to ska, rocksteady, and reggae music. Born on March 27, 1940 in Stratton, Clarendon, Jamaica, he overcame the challenges of a retinal deficiency that caused total blindness. His musical journey began after winning the "Vere Johns Opportunity Hour" singing competition and joining various troupes.

Collaborating with renowned artists such as Prince Buster and Bunny Lee throughout his career, Derrick Morgan established himself as a prominent figure in the music industry. He even founded his own record labels including *Horse*, *Hop* and "Morgan". In the late 1970s, he spent time in Canada before settling in England. However, he has now returned to Jamaica where he proudly supports the career of his daughter Ventrice Morgan aka *Ventrice*.

Influenced by artists like Lord Tanamo and Owen Gray among others from the vibrant Jamaican music scene of that era such as The Tennors and The Ethiopians; Derrick Morgan's unique sound continues to captivate audiences worldwide. With his remarkable talent and extensive discography spanning multiple genres within Jamaican music history; it is no wonder that he remains an influential force in the industry.
