Franco Battiato

Franco Battiato, born Francesco Battiato (Ionia, March 23, 1945 - Milo, May 18, 2021), was an Italian singer-songwriter, composer, musician, and painter.

An internationally known artist, Franco Battiato has had a diverse and influential career spanning several decades. Starting in the mid-60s with singles released under his real name of Francesco, he later moved to Milan. In 1970, after collaborating with Osage Tribe, he signed a record deal with Bla Bla and released his first solo album "Fetus" in 1972. This progressive rock album showcased his unique minimalist sound and unusual lyrics.

Battiato's second album "Pollution" continued in the same vein but incorporated more traditional rock instruments. It achieved success on the Italian charts and solidified his reputation as an alternative artist. His subsequent albums explored avant-garde styles and featured experimental compositions closer to contemporary music than progressive rock.
