Mink Deville

Mink DeVille was a US R&B/rock & roll band fronted by Willy DeVille. The band, which existed from 1974 to 1986, started out in San Francisco before changing their name and becoming one of the house bands at CBGB in New York City. Despite being categorized as part of the punk/new wave underground scene, Mink DeVille's music was actually built on R&B, blues, and 60's classic pop with a streetwise attitude and back alley romanticism.

Discovered by Capitol Records in 1977, Mink DeVille recorded three albums for the label. Producer legend Jack Nitzsche played a major role in shaping the band's sound and they caught the attention of songwriting legend Doc Pomus. Although they didn't achieve mainstream success in the US, Mink DeVille gained a significant following in Europe.

After breaking up the original band, Willy DeVille continued to perform under his own name from 1986 onwards. Some key songs from Mink DeVille include "Spanish Stroll," "Mixed Up, Shook Up Girl," "A Train Lady," "I Broke That Promise," "Just To Walk That Little Girl Home," and "Love & Emotion."
