Phill Niblock

Phill Niblock, born on October 2, 1933 in Anderson, Indiana, is an artist known for his work in photography and film. After obtaining a degree in Economics, he turned his focus to capturing portraits of influential figures within New York's jazz and avant-garde art circles during the early 1960s. His subjects ranged from Duke Ellington and Sun Ra to John Cage and Yoko Ono.

Inspired by Morton Feldman's compositions featuring prolonged notes and other music forms, Niblock began creating his own music. He became an integral part of the Sonic Arts Union scene alongside Gordon Mumma, Alvin Lucier, and others. Since the early 1970s, he has been running Experimental Intermedia - a non-commercial organization that continues to organize concerts at his Centre Street loft in New York City.

With a discography spanning several decades, Phill Niblock has established himself as a prominent figure in experimental music. His unique style resonates with fans of artists such as Éliane Radigue, David Toop, Akira Rabelais, Kevin Drumm, Rafael Toral and many more.
