The Go-Betweens

The Go-Betweens were a pop-rock/new wave band formed in Brisbane, Australia in 1977. The band was founded by singer-songwriters and guitarists, Robert Forster and Grant McLennan. They later added Lindy Morrison on drums, Robert Vickers on bass guitar, and Amanda Brown on violin, oboe, guitar, and backing vocals. After disbanding in late 1989, Forster and McLennan reformed the band in 2000 with a new lineup. Tragically, McLennan passed away from a heart attack in 2006 leading to the second disbandment of The Go-Betweens.

In 1988, their single "Streets of Your Town" became their biggest chart hit both in Australia and the United Kingdom (UK). Another single from their album 16 Lovers Lane titled "Was There Anything I Could Do?" reached No. 16 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in the United States. Additionally, their song "Cattle and Cane" from Before Hollywood released in 1983 was recognized as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time by Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) in May 2001. In recognition of its impact on rock music during the 1980s era, Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) TV's The Great Australian Albums series featured their album 16 Lovers Lane as a classic example.
