The Sonics

The Sonics are an American rock and roll group that formed in 1963 in Tacoma, Washington. They are considered pioneers of "proto-punk" and "garage rock". The band initially played at local dance halls and high schools until they were discovered by Buck Ormsby, the bass player of The Wailers. With Ormsby's help, they recorded two LPs that were released in 1965. Known for their crude and brutal sound, as well as Gerry Roslie's provocative lyrics and screams, The Sonics scored some minor hits before disbanding in 1969.

However, the band reunited in 2007 and has been actively performing since then. Their original lineup consisted of Gerry Roslie on organ, piano, and lead vocals; Rob Lind on saxophone, vocals, and harmonica; Larry Parypa on lead guitar and vocals; Andy Parypa on bass guitar; and Bob Bennett on drums. In their current lineup as of 2015, Freddie Dennis joined as the bass guitarist and lead vocalist while Dusty Watson took over the drums.
