Ghost Box

A record label established in 2004 by composer, Jim Jupp and music industry graphic designer, Julian House. Ghost Box was created as an outlet for their own musical experiments, with each release's packaging displaying a similar design sensibility. The music and design of Ghost Box allude to House and Jupp's shared imaginary landscape; a very British parallel world of library music, 60s and 70s horror movies, TV science-fiction soundtracks, vintage electronics and Radiophonics, supernatural stories and folklore.

Since its establishment, Ghost Box has grown and developed while maintaining a deliberately small roster of artists. These artists work in differing styles but share the same sensibilities that fit within Ghost Box's fictional world. Key artists on the label include The Focus Group (Julian House), Belbury Poly (Jim Jupp), The Advisory Circle, Pye Corner Audio, and Roj.

In recent years, Ghost Box artists have collaborated with guests on a series of singles and EPs. Notable collaborations include Broadcast, John Foxx, Sean O'Hagan (High Llamas), Jonny Trunk, and Moon Wiring Club. Music journalist Simon Reynolds coined the genre term "hauntology" to describe Ghost Box's unique electronica that evokes nostalgia and haunting vibes.
