SteepleChase

SteepleChase is a Danish jazz label that was founded in 1972 by jazz enthusiast Nils Winther. The label started out recording artists live at the famous jazzclub Montmartre in Copenhagen. During the early 70's, SteepleChase became a haven for US jazz artists who had relocated to Europe due to decreased interest in their music back home. Renowned musicians such as Ben Webster, Chet Baker, Paul Bley, Kenny Drew, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Shirley Horn, Thad Jones, Duke Jordan, Jackie McLean, Horace Parlan, Archie Shepp and Doug and Jimmy Raney frequented Montmartre and SteepleChase. Nils Winther played a pivotal role in recording and producing most of the label's releases.
