Badfinger is a British pop band that was established in November 1969 in Swansea, Wales. The band was founded by Pete Ham on guitar, piano, and vocals; Joey Molland on guitar, keyboards, and vocals; Tom Evans on bass and vocals; and Mike Gibbins on drums. Known for their melodic sound and catchy hooks, Badfinger gained popularity with hits like "Come and Get It" and "No Matter What." They were often compared to other influential artists such as Raspberries, Emitt Rhodes, Ringo Starr, Todd Rundgren, The Lovin' Spoonful, The Guess Who, The Grass Roots, The Zombies, The Hollies, The Association, Faces, The Monkees, The Left Banke,

Despite their success in the early 1970s,Badfinger faced financial troubles due to mismanagement of their funds by their manager. This led to internal conflicts within the band which ultimately resulted in tragic consequences. Both Pete Ham and Tom Evans tragically took their own lives in separate incidents.

Formidable Rhythm and Blues (also known as Rhythm And Blues Formidable) was a French series launched by Barclay in 1966. As a distributor for different labels such as Atlantic, Atco, Stax, and others, this label played a significant role in promoting the vibrant genre of rhythm and blues. Over the years, some of these remarkable compilations were reissued through WEA Filipacchi Music in their renowned series.

The Iveys had been a moderately successful Swansea-based beat group in the mid-sixties performing cover versions of the latest pop and soul records before they engaged Liverpudlian Bill Collins as their manager. Collins had known the Beatles back in 1962-63 and was chummy with their road manager Mal Evans, who came along to an Iveys gig in January 1968. This led to the group being signed by Apple Records for a three-year deal. Tom Evans’ composition Maybe Tomorrow was the first single. Although it bombed in the UK and USA, it was an international smash released in 20 countries worldwide. “We felt our original name was too nice. And people kept asking us if we were the old Ivy League.” In November 1969, The Iveys changed their name to Badfinger to coincide with the release of their recording of the Paul McCartney song, Come And Get It. Side One of this set contains songs recorded by the Iveys for the BBC in 1969, and Side Two consists of Badfinger sessions from 1970 for the BBC and a couple of tracks* for the German TV programme, Beat Club.
