Deep Purple, formed in Hertford, UK in 1968 are renowned as the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock. They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as 'the globe's loudest band' for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide. Their debut studio album 'Shades of Deep Purple' contains four original songs and four covers, including The Beatles 'Help' and Jimi Hendrix's 'Foxy Lady'. Although not an immediate hit on initial release Shades of Deep Purple has gone on to be a classic moment in Deep Purple history.
