Julie Doiron

Julie Doiron is a Canadian artist born in 1972 in Moncton, New Brunswick. She studied photography at Mount Allison University and began her musical journey at a young age, learning piano and saxophone before picking up the guitar. In the early 1990s, she joined the band Rick White and later started her own record label, Sappy Records. She released her first solo album in 1996 and signed with Sub Pop a year later. Julie continues to create music and perform both as a solo artist and with Shotgun & Jaybird.

Throughout her career, Julie has been involved in various musical projects and collaborations. She founded Sappy Records in 1990 to release music by herself and other artists, including vinyl records by her band at the time. The label was co-run by her husband Jon Claytor until it went on hiatus in 2000 but was revived in 2006.

In addition to her musical pursuits, Julie is also a mother of four children. Her passion for creating heartfelt music shines through in every song she writes and performs.
