CTI

CTI (short for Creed Taylor Inc.) is a US record label owned and overseen by jazz producer Creed Taylor. He began the CTI label in 1967 as an imprint of Herb Alpert's A&M Records. Three years later, Taylor took CTI out from under the A&M umbrella and relaunched it as an independent label. Despite filing for bankruptcy in 1978, much of CTI's catalog has remained in print. The label went through various distribution deals with Columbia Records and became independent again, releasing new albums until 1984. In 1989, CTI was restructured after a lawsuit with Warner Brothers, and it continued to release music until its final original release in 1993.

In 2002, CTI started issuing mail-order only releases via ctirecords.com and its sister website ctijazz.com. Although the websites ceased operation in 2009, they are currently under development on behalf of Creed Taylor's family. Throughout the years, extensive CD reissue series have been coordinated by producers such as Didier C. Deutsch and Yoichi Nakao.

CTI had distribution agreements with various companies around the world including Quality Records Limited (Canada), RCA S.A. (France), King Records (Japan), Phonodisc B.V./Dureco (The Netherlands), PolyGram Records Limited/Pye Records Ltd./Polydor Ltd. (UK and Eire), Motown Records
