Geffen

Geffen Records, founded by David Geffen in 1980, is a renowned music label with a rich history. It launched its journey with Donna Summer's "The Wanderer" and went on to release iconic albums like John Lennon's "Double Fantasy". Initially distributed by Warner Bros. Records, the label was later acquired by MCA Records in 1990. Geffen played a significant role in distributing Rick Rubin's Def American Recordings during its early years. After merging with Interscope Records in 1999 as part of the Universal Music Group, Geffen absorbed the entire MCA Records catalog and roster in 2003.

In 2013, Geffen became part of Interscope but was revived in 2017 under the leadership of CEO John Janick and President Neil Jacobson. Known for their distinctive branding featuring a stylized "G ball / sphere," releases from Geffen are often credited simply as "Geffen." Please note that any references to DGC or David Geffen Company should be listed under DGC.
