Le Chant du Monde

Le Chant du Monde is a French label and music publishing house founded in 1938 by Léon Moussinac. Supported by prestigious allies such as Georges Auric, Roger Désormière, Arthur Honegger, Charles Kœchlin, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Manuel Rosenthal et Albert Roussel, they have become known for their collection of traditional music recordings and commissioned compositions that transcribe French oral traditions. After WWII, they acquired les Editions sociales internationales and became the French editor of Russian composers Serge Prokofiev, Dimitri Chostakovitch and Aram Khatchatourian. They were also the first producer of notable artists like Léo Ferré, Mouloudji, Cora Vaucaire and Colette Magny.

In January 1982, Le Chant Du Monde faced bankruptcy but was reactivated six months later with a new distributor. In 1993, they merged with Arlesian-based French distributor [l19369] and now focus on classical music, pop music, children's music and traditional music.
