Minnie Riperton

Minnie Riperton was an American R&B/Soul singer, songwriter, and recording artist. She was born on November 8, 1947 in Chicago, IL and passed away on July 12, 1979 at the age of 31 in Los Angeles, CA. Minnie possessed a remarkable five-octave vocal range and was known for her ability to sing in the 'whistle register', which she famously demonstrated on her hit song 'Lovin' You' released in 1974. She was married to Richard Rudolph and is the mother of actress and comedienne Maya Rudolph. As a result, she became the mother-in-law to film director Paul Thomas Anderson.
