Moondog

Moondog, born on May 26, 1916 in Marysville, Kansas and passed away on September 8, 1999 in Münster, Germany. Despite losing his sight at the age of 17 due to an accident involving a dynamite cap, he continued to write most of his music in braille. Moondog was a revered pioneer on the avant-garde/minimalist scene, particularly within the jazz realm. His revolutionary approach to composition and melody earned him praise from influential contemporaries such as Philip Glass and Steve Reich. He drew comparisons to Harry Partch in terms of style and attitude. Moondog's influence can be heard in the works of Stereolab and Moonshake among many others.
