Epic

Epic Records is a record label that was launched in 1953 by CBS. It quickly became known for its bright-yellow and black logo, which became a trademark for many jazz and classical music releases. Over the years, Epic has worked with notable artists such as *Berlin Philharmonic*, *Juilliard String Quartet*, *Antal Dorati*, and *George Szell*. In the 1960s, Epic earned its first gold records and established itself as a force in rock, R&B, and country music. The label worked with popular acts like *Bobby Vinton*, *Sly and the Family Stone*, *The Dave Clark Five*, and *Donovan*. Throughout the 1970s, Epic's success continued to grow with artists like *The Hollies*, *Edgar Winter ABBA*, and *Tammy Wynette*. The label had tremendous success in the 1980s and 1990s with multi-platinum albums from artists including *Meat Loaf*,*The Jacksons*,*Sade,*Michael Jackson,*Cyndi Lauper*.

Rage Against the Machine (RATM) is an alternative rock/modern rock band formed in 1991 in Los Angeles, California. Known for their unique blend of hip hop, heavy metal, punk, and funk, as well as their revolutionary politics and lyrics. After disbanding in 2000 due to Zack de la Rocha's departure for a solo career, the remaining members joined Audioslave. In 2007, RATM reunited for several shows and later formed Prophets of Rage with Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy and B-Real from Cypress Hill. In 2019, RATM announced their return while Prophets of Rage disbanded.

Having successfully fused music and politics from their start, inspiring both moshing and young minds in the process, Rage Against the Machine emerge in peak form with merely their third album in seven years. Guitarist Tom Morello is one of the most distinctive and innovative players of his era, and his foil, vocalist / lyricist Zack De La Rocha, is as unrelenting and inspiring as ever on The Battle of Los Angeles. Rage, whose past antics include performing naked with duct tape over their mouths to protest censorship, released Battle on Election Day in the US, but the politics of the group can be separated from the sounds. Indeed, the 45 minutes of mayhem heard here can be enjoyed solely as rousing aggro hip-hop rock. There's more variety found on Battle than on its predecessors, however. Sleep Now In The Fire is one of their most straight-ahead rock tunes, while the trippy guitar on Calm Like A Bomb is out there even for the adventurous Morello and Born a Broken Man serves up lovely musical interludes.
