Getz-Gilberto 2
The pairing of American saxophonist Stan Getz and Brazilian guitarist Joao Gilberto for the 1964 album release Getz / Gilberto, along with bossa nova inventor / composer Tom Jobim, introduced bossa nova to the world at large and the momentous performance given by these innovators at Carnegie Hall on October 9 was a key part of the process. Unlike on the studio LP, which was completely collaborative, at Carnegie Hall, each performer and their backing musicians delivered individual sets, until they all joined together at the end to be led on several numbers by Joao’s wife Astrud, including the immortal Girl From Ipanema. And although the initial release on Verve left out the collaborative work with Astrud, this edition presents the entire proceedings with everything fully intact.
