Sometimes you have to burn everything down in order to start over. That was the mentality Irish singer-songwriter Eoin French, better known as Talos, adopted in order to create his third studio album, Dear Chaos. Following his 2019 effort Far Out Dust, Dear Chaos is a portrait of destruction, rebirth, and renewal. Written and recorded in Castletownshend, Cork, Ireland over a two-and-a-half year period, Dear Chaos builds a unique world out of shimmering, atmospheric electronics, reverberating drums, and ethereal synths. In order to reach this new plane of existence, Talos had to first unlearn everything he thought he knew and start again.

Dear Chaos is about loss and grief and isolation,” Talos explains further. “Not because of what was going on in the world, but... I was basically on my own for two years, in a rural part of West Cork... Not really speaking to the outside world. I threw out an album and started again. And ended up with an album that’s a very personal internal dialogue. So there’s a madness to the record. And I don’t think it could have been made anywhere else but here.”
