Formidable Rhythm and Blues (also known as Rhythm And Blues Formidable) was a French series launched by Barclay in 1966. As a distributor for different labels such as Atlantic, Atco, Stax, and others, this label played a significant role in promoting the vibrant genre of rhythm and blues. Over the years, some of these remarkable compilations were reissued through WEA Filipacchi Music in their renowned series.

Emerging from Liverpool, England in 1960, The Beatles were a seminal British group that evolved from rock/pop origins into pioneers of musical experimentation. The band solidified its iconic lineup in 1962, featuring John Lennon (vocals, guitar, harmonica, keyboards), Paul McCartney (vocals, bass, guitar, keyboards, percussion), George Harrison (guitar, vocals, sitar), and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals, percussion) after signing a recording contract with EMI.Initially recognized for their Merseybeat style, The Beatles soon ventured into uncharted musical territories. They explored psychedelia and pioneered innovative production techniques that incorporated tape loops and other effects. Over their active years they created a legacy of 12 studio albums.Their profound impact on rock and roll was acknowledged in 1988 when they were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as a group. By 2015 each member had also received individual recognition for their contributions as solo artists within the Hall of Fame.

The Beatles were at their peak as a live band in mid-1964. On Side One and part of Side Two is the whole of the 5pm September 3rd show at the Indiana State Fair, which was broadcast live on WIFE-AM. Parts of the concert were filmed for a TV special, “Our Fair Beatles”. Also on the bill were The Bill Black Combo, The Exciters, Clarence ‘Frogman’ Henry, and Jackie DeShannon. The Beatles also played a second show in the evening that was set up hastily outside the venue on a dirt race track in front of the grandstand. This album also features a storming short set from the NME Poll Winners Concert on 26th April 1964. Listen to John chuckle as he screams at the wrong place in You Can’t Do That.
