“A New Dimension In Cultural Awareness” were the words of Tribe Records’ co-founder and trombonist Phil Ranelin as the label emerged in a vibrant Detroit in 1972. Together with other co-founder and saxophonist Wendell Harrison, the duo delivered the first of what would become a treasure trove of spiritual jazz releases with 1973’s Message From the Tribe. P-Vine is delighted to present this limited edition reissue of the record’s third edition, first released in 1974. The preceding second version presented a significant edit, with tracks being re-recorded, rearranged and extended to transform the record into a double LP. This third version is based on the second with minor tweaks to the mixing and effects, making this the intended final form of the duo’s pinnacle record of socially conscious spiritual jazz. Pressed on heavy-weight 180g vinyl, this double LP version also ships with an iconic Japanese obi strip.
