Blind Lemon Jefferson

Blind Lemon Jefferson was an American blues and gospel guitarist, singer, and songwriter. Born on September 24, 1893 in Couchman, Texas, he became one of the most popular blues singers of the 1920s. Known as the "Father of the Texas Blues," Jefferson's high-pitched voice and unique guitar playing style made his performances distinctive.

Although his recordings sold well during his time, Jefferson did not have a strong influence on younger blues singers who found it difficult to imitate him compared to other commercially successful artists. However, later blues and rock and roll musicians attempted to emulate both his songs and musical style.

In recognition of his impact on music history, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame selected Jefferson's 1927 recording of "Matchbox Blues" as one of the 500 songs that shaped rock and roll. Additionally, he was among the inaugural class of blues musicians inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980.
