Chapterhouse

Chapterhouse is a British rock band formed in Reading in 1987. The band members include Andrew Sherriff, Stephen Patman, Simon Rowe, Russell Barrett, and Ashley Bates. They spent over a year rehearsing and performing before recording their first demotape. Initially associated with the acid rock scene, they later became known as one of the influential "shoegazer" groups of 1991. Chapterhouse signed to Dedicated label and released successful singles like Pearl that reached the UK Top 75. After a hiatus, the band reunited in 2009 and continues to perform live shows.

Formed in Reading in 1987 by Andrew Sherriff (guitar/vocals), Stephen Patman (guitar), Simon Rowe (guitar), Jon Curtis (bass) and Ashley Bates (drums), Chapterhouse took their time to perfect their sound before recording any music. Initially associated with the British acid rock scene, they later found themselves categorized as one of the prominent "shoegazer" groups alongside Lush, Moose, and Slowdive due to their static live performances and introspective music style.

The band gained recognition after signing with Dedicated label where they released highly acclaimed singles such as Pearl which achieved success on the UK charts. With distorted melodies that attracted a dedicated following, Chapterhouse started gaining attention internationally as well.
