Clara Rockmore

Clara Rockmore (born Clara Reisenberg in Vilnius, Lithuania, on March 9, 1911; died in New York City, USA, on May 10, 1998) is widely regarded as the most accomplished performer of the theremin electronic musical instrument. She began her musical journey as a child prodigy on the violin and was admitted to the Imperial Conservatory of Saint Petersburg at just five years old. With a specially tailored theremin designed by Leon Theremin himself to suit her unique needs, Clara mesmerized audiences with her performances of classical compositions. Her mastery over the instrument allowed her to create sounds reminiscent of a blend between cello, violin, and human voice.

Clara Rockmore's talent extended beyond the theremin. She was also known for being the sister of Nadia Reisenberg - another renowned musician. Throughout her career, Clara captivated listeners with her ability to evoke emotions through this unusual electronic instrument.

Influenced by artists such as Lydia Kavina, Meredith Monk, Raymond Scott and many others from various genres including classical and experimental music; Clara Rockmore has left an indelible mark on the world of music. Her legacy continues to inspire aspiring musicians and enthusiasts alike.
