Creedence Clearwater Revival
Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) was an American rock band active from 1967 to 1972. The band, consisting of John Fogerty on vocals and guitar, Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar, Stu Cook on bass, and Doug "Cosmo" Clifford on drums, hailed from Berkeley, California but their music often evoked the imagery of the American South.
The group originally started as The Blue Velvets in 1959 before becoming Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets while backing John's older brother. They later changed their name to the Golliwogs but struggled to find success with their singles. In 1967, they rebranded themselves as Creedence Clearwater Revival with John Fogerty taking full control of the group.
CCR had a prolific period between 1968 and 1970 when they released six albums and various singles. However, tensions arose within the band due to John Fogerty's dominance. In 1971, it was announced that Tom Fogerty had left CCR. The remaining members made one more album as a trio in 1972 called "Mardi Gras," where both Cook and Clifford were given equal opportunities for writing and recording. Unfortunately, the album received poor reviews leading to CCR's eventual split.
