Flowers is an English studio musician born on May 19, 1938, in Isleworth, Middlesex. He specializes in bass guitar, double-bass, and tuba. Flowers gained prominence through his performances with David Bowie, Elton John, and later Lou Reed. In 1969, Flowers co-founded the group Blue Mink and was a member of CCS and a mid-1970s line-up of T. Rex. In 1979 he became a co-founder of the band Sky.

Since the early 1990s when Sky disbanded, Flowers has dedicated most of his time to playing jazz. Alongside his music career, he works as a bass guitar teacher and leads 'rockshops' at schools where he helps children create and perform their own songs while covering various others. Notably, Flowers composed the novelty hit "Grandad" for Clive Dunn.
