Street Worms, originally released in September 2018, saw the Stockholm-formed sextet Viagra Boys explode on to the scene with feverish energy and caustic irony. Their initial nine-track debut album has been expanded with five brand new songs carrying the same infectious 'ugly gonzo post-punk' spirit.

Fronted by the distinctively tattooed Sebastian 'Sebbe' Murphy (himself a tattoo artist), he delivers a devastating vocal showerstorm over the churning overdriven guitars and relentlessly driving rhythms. Singing as if he's having an existential breakdown, the lyrics tackle the absurdness of existence - as if being anything at all is some kind of joke on humanity - 'It was all a dream, but it was so nice/I had a nice house and such a lovely wife.'

Another theme the album tackles is, as their name intends to pun, man's failed role in society - and will we ever get that agenda on Sports out of our heads? 'Baseball/Basketball/Weiner dog/Short shorts/Cigarette'. They snarl at everyday behaviours such as exaggerated virility and classism, but manage to conjure some humour out of the serious issues. And despite the anger and anxiety towards masculine insufficiency, there's a sensitivity and a humanism running through the album too - 'You'll turn into dirt someday/Same dirt as me/Like one becomes a two and two becomes a three/The same worms that eat me will someday eat you too'.

All in all, Street Worms is a powerfully captivating blend of theatrics, rock’n’roll, post-punk and passion from Sweden’s answer to Idles and Sleaford Mods.

Fontaines D.C. is an indie band hailing from Dublin, Ireland. Formed in 2014 as Fontaines, the band came up with the idea of creating a Beatles punk band during a college night out. The same night, they booked a rehearsal space and embarked on their musical journey.

The band consists of talented members including Grian Chatten on vocals, Conor Deegan III on bass, Carlos O’Connell and Conor Curley on guitars, and Tom Coll on drums.

In 2019, Fontaines D.C. released their debut album which was highly acclaimed. It was shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize and elected Rough Trade's Album of the Year for that year.

The debut album from the much loved at Rough Trade Fontaines D.C. They don’t pretend to be from anywhere but Dublin, and that charges their colloquial rock’n’roll garage music with an authenticity that makes them stand apart. The album is sharp, gritty and intense. The band are locked in and the vocals mixed high with Grian Chatten's irish accent prominent.

Standouts include Hurricane Laughter which is an insistent and repetitive song built on a Mark E Smith style spoken vocal and a band who are locked into a rock n roll groove. The hook of “And there is no connection available” lingers long in your mind after the song has left the building.

Boys in the Better Land is another golden nugget that has the sound of The Modern Lovers if they'd grown up in Dublin whilst first single on Partisan Too Real is a masterclass in repetition. It employs hypnotic, kraut-rock infused cyclical riffs, whilst channeling Dublin into their concise and often-unassumingly poetic lyrics with a distinctive gritty Irish drawl.

Seriously you won't find a better debut album this year. It oozes class and is the sound of 2019.
