Johnny Hallyday

Johnny Hallyday was a French singer, songwriter, performer, and actor. Born on June 15, 1943 in Paris and passing away on December 5, 2017 in Marnes-la-Coquette, Île-de-France. He gained immense popularity in France with his extensive discography of over 1000 songs, including self-penned titles and adaptations of English originals. With more than 100 million records sold and numerous accolades such as gold records, platinum records, diamond records, and Victoires de la Musique awards (the French equivalent of the Grammy), Hallyday's impact on the music industry cannot be overstated.

Hallyday's concerts attracted a staggering audience of 28 million people across more than 100 tours in France and Europe. Despite some international ventures during the 1960s and 1970s, including a concert in Las Vegas in 1996, Hallyday remained relatively unknown outside the French-speaking world.

Influenced by American idols during his early career in the early 1960s, Hallyday built his success through French adaptations of their songs. His marriage to fellow French singer Sylvie Vartan from April 12th, 1965 until November 4th,1980 added to his public image as an iconic figure within the industry.
