Lightnin' Hopkins

Lightnin' Hopkins was an American country blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Born on March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas, he became a legendary figure in the music industry. In 1920, Hopkins had the opportunity to play with Blind Lemon Jefferson at a social function, which greatly influenced his musical career.

In 1946, while playing alongside his cousin Texas Alexander in Houston, Hopkins was discovered by Lola Anne Cullum of Los Angeles' Aladdin Records. He started recording with pianist Wilson Smith and together they were known as 'Lightning' & 'Thunder', adding dynamic energy to their marketing.

Throughout his career, Lightnin' Hopkins produced strong recordings including the popular song "Mojo Hand" in 1960. His talent and unique style inspired many artists such as Jimmie Vaughan, Townes Van Zandt, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan.

Although often miscredited for writing Chuck Willis's song "I Feel So Bad," covered by Little Milton and Elvis Presley among others; Lightnin' Hopkins did write a song with the same name released in 1947 on Aladdin Records and later in 1962 on Imperial Records.
