Los Saicos

Los Saicos is a Peruvian Garage/Proto Punk band from Lince, Lima, Peru. They were active from 1960-1966, 1969, and since 2010. The band is known for their unique style of singing their own compositions in Spanish during a time when other groups were imitating British bands and singing in English. Los Saicos has been recognized as one of the most original and influential Latin American bands of the 1960s.

In the summer of 1960, Erwin Flores, Rolando "El Chino" Carpio, César "Papi" Castrillón, and Francisco "Pancho" Guevara met in a rock and roll gang called Los Cometas. They decided to form their own band and began meeting at Carpio's house to listen to songs. It was during one of these rehearsals that they came up with the name Los Saicos, inspired by the word "psycho" and Seiko watches popular at that time.

The band released their first song titled "Demolition" in May 1965 after their producer loved it during a rehearsal. They became associated with various record labels throughout their career but ultimately disbanded when they felt they would become just another band on the pile.
