Manu Dibango

Manu Dibango was a Cameroonian saxophonist born on December 12, 1933 in Douala. With his musical career starting in Brussels and Paris in the 1950s, he originally trained in classical piano. In 1960, he became a member of African Jazz directed by Joseph Kabasele (Le Grand Kalle) and later formed his own band in Cameroon in 1963. Moving to Paris in 1965, he achieved international recognition with his breakthrough hit "Soul Makossa" in 1972. Sadly, Manu Dibango passed away on March 24, 2020 in France.
