MC5

MC5 (Motor City Five) was a U.S. garage rock / heavy psychedelic / proto punk rock band formed in Lincoln Park, Michigan in 1964. After relocating to Ann Arbor, Michigan and gaining attention for their performance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, they were signed by Elektra Records. Despite their overtly political and anti-establishment stance, which limited their mainstream appeal outside of the American Rust Belt, MC5 released two albums with Atlantic Records before disbanding.

The MC5 (Motor City Five) emerged from Lincoln Park, Michigan in 1964 as a prominent U.S. garage rock / heavy psychedelic / proto punk rock band. In 1968, they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where they caught the attention of Elektra Records after an impressive performance at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. However, due to their politically charged and anti-establishment approach, their popularity remained largely confined to the American Rust Belt region.

Despite facing challenges with widespread acceptance beyond their core fanbase, MC5 signed with Atlantic Records after being dropped by Elektra Records in 1969. They went on to release two more albums before ultimately disbanding.
