When we put out our first collection of BÖC rarities for Black Friday back in 2017, the response was so off-the-charts that we HAD to come back with another volume! And it's not as if anybody had to twist our arm…Blue Öyster Cult makes the final heat for best American band of the '70s and '80s without even breathing hard.

Capturing all sides of such a polymathic outfit is a tall task, but this double-album set-composed of 18 tracks that have never appeared on LP anywhere-comes pretty damn close, covering the years 1975 to 1988 with a blend of rare live cuts, demos, and album outtakes. It gets off to a rollicking start with a 1975 live take on "Stairway to the Stars," followed by preproduction demos for Agents of Fortune's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" and "Dance the Night Away." Up next are no less than four outtakes from Spectres, and a crushing live 1977 performance of "Godzilla." Five songs from a 8/22/79 show at Berkeley's Zellerbach Auditorium follow, all of them from the band's 1979 album Mirrors including the title number, and then a pair of affectionate covers: The Who's "Substitute" and The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." Some of the rarest tracks on the album are three demos for songs the band submitted for the 1984 comedy film Teachers, and the last track is a spoken word intro from avowed BÖC fan Stephen King for "Astronomy," a song from the long-gestating Imaginos project. The two records are pressed on translucent blue vinyl, and housed inside a gatefold jacket festooned with photos from the Columbia label archives and featuring an essay by Scott Schinder drawn from interviews with Eric Bloom and Buck Dharma. And speaking of Eric and Buck, for this special Record Store Day 2018 release, we've enclosed a "Golden Ticket": 100 out of the 2000 copies we're pressing up include a randomly inserted vintage BÖC press photo signed by Mr. Bloom and Mr. Dharma!
