Live @ KEXP
Rough Trade Albums of the Year 2018 Exclusive
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever release four-track EP Live @ KEXP from their live session recording at Seattle's KEXP radio station. Available on Rough Trade Exclusive Standard Black 12” Vinyl. Limited to 700 Copies.
It’s rare that a band’s debut album sounds as confident and self-assured as Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s Hope Downs. To say that the first full-length from the Melbourne quintet improved on their buzz-building EPs from the last few years would be an understatement: the promise those early releases hinted became fully realized on the album, with ten songs of urgent and passionate guitar pop that elicit warm memories of bands past, from the Go-Betweens’ jangle to the charmingly lo-fi trappings of New Zealand’s Flying Nun label. But don’t mistake Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever for nostalgists: Hope Downs is the sound of a band finding its own collective voice. Released in mid-June as the long hot summer kicked in and the World Cup kicked off Hope Downs has grown in stature since release and gone on to become one of the albums of the year. The Live @ KEXP release was recorded back in the spring at the much loved Seattle radio station of the same name. At their second trip to the station to record a session in a year, the band performed 3 tracks from their debut album and a choice cut from their 2nd EP, French Press.
