Neneh Cherry

Neneh Cherry is a Swedish singer born on March 10, 1964, in Stockholm. She started her career as a vocalist for the English post-punk band Rip Rig + Panic and later formed the group Float Up CP with former band members. In the mid-80s, she lent her vocals to artists such as The The and Neneh Cherry & The Circuit.

In 1988, Cherry gained international fame with her hit single "Buffalo Stance" from her debut album Raw Like Sushi. This album showcased her unique blend of hip-hop rhythms and pop melodies, earning critical acclaim and impressive sales figures.

Throughout her career, Cherry has collaborated with various artists including Senegalese superstar Youssou N'Dour on the chart-topping single "Seven Seconds." Her album Man released in 1996 featured another successful single titled "Woman."

Born into a musical family, Cherry is the daughter of Ahmadu Jarr and Moki Cherry. She is also the step-daughter of jazz trumpeter Don Cherry and half-sister to singer Eagle-Eye Cherry and Swedish pop star Titiyo. With Bruce Smith, she has a daughter named Naima Karlsson. Currently married to Cameron McVey, she is the mother of Mabel McVey and Lolita Moon while also being a step-mom to Marlon Roudette.
