American soul singer, songwriter, producer and arranger. Otis Redding was an influential figure in 60s American popular music and is considered a seminal artist of Soul and R&B. He was married from 1961 until his death and had four children. Otis Redding's best known compositions include the hits "Respect" and "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay". He was posthumously inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (Performer) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994.

Born on September 9, 1941 in Dawson, Georgia, USA, Otis Redding tragically died on December 10, 1967 near Madison, Wisconsin, USA in a plane crash.

Shortly after his breakthrough appearance at the monterey pop festival, otis redding began talking of making a record that would be to soul music what sgt. pepper's was to rock. sadly, "(sittin' on) the dock of the bay" was the only song he recorded for this project before his untimely death, and so the dock of the bay wound up being a mixed bag of non-lp singles and previously unreleased material. of course, redding was such an amazing singer that even a ragtag collection of his stuff is worth checking out, and this album certainly has its fair share of high points, including "tramp," a sassy duet with carla thomas; the funky "don't mess with cupid"; and the unbelievably poignant "ole man trouble.on sundazed high quality vinyl
