Six by Seven is an English indie rock band that was officially formed in Nottingham in 1996. Originally known as "Friends Of...", the band gained critical acclaim with their first 12" single 'European Me' in 1997 and released their debut album, The Things We Make, the following year.

After Chris Olley left the band in November 2008, all releases since then have been through him via the Six by Seven website. However, these releases are not authorized by the other band members and are considered bootlegs by Chris.

In 2011, Chris Olley started recording with a new project called (The Death Of) Six by Seven. This semi-unplugged band played two gigs without a drummer and released one album. In 2013, Six by Seven officially reformed with a new lineup and released a new album.

Recorded At The New Batcave in Nottingham during 2021. A double album compilation of two double CDs called: 'Neil Young's Shirt' and 'Now And Then' which were released on Bandcamp during mid 2020 and early 2021. Although Chris Olley's songwriting is obviously heavily influenced by the legendary Talk Talk albums 'The Colour Of Spring' and 'Laughing Stock', 'Then, Now And Neil', makes sure the songs and sounds are not just content with the slow burning melancholy of the Talk Talk albums, but that they build up and have the added aggression of the distinct Six By Seven post rock style which earned them such accolade in the 2000's. Although there are shorter more rocking songs and a couple of trademark lyrically twisted ballads, most of the songs on this album sound like mini-symphonies as they extended and are allowed to evolve and build into epic soundscapes.
