The Louvin Brothers

An American country vocal/harmony duet, consisting of brothers Ira and Charlie Loudermilk. Their professional career began after winning a talent contest by singing "There's a Hole in the Bottom of the Sea." They were signed by Capitol Records after brief stints on Apollo, Decca, and MGM. Initially focused on gospel music, they transitioned to country with their 1955 release of "When I Stop Dreaming." However, their journey came to an end in 1963 due to Ira's volatile temper. Following the breakup, Charlie embarked on a successful solo career while tragedy struck when Ira was killed in a car wreck in Jefferson City, Missouri on June 20, 1965. Posthumously released songs from his solo album showcased his immense talent.

The Louvin Brothers received well-deserved recognition for their contributions to music. In 1991, they were inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame and later honored with induction into the prestigious Country Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
