reissue of one of townne's best on fat possum. originally released in 1968 for 'the sake of the song' is a re-issue of townes' well known debut album. from a high profile texan family, townes van zandt was being groomed as texas governor, but inspired by singer-songwriters like bob dylan, he dropped out of college in the 1960s to pursue a singing career. you don't have to hail from texas to understand why steve earle said that all roads start and end with townes van zandt. this epic album's title track is a heartbreaking americana masterpiece in and of itself. and if 'tecumseh valley' or 'waitin' around to die' don't hit your heart, chances are you're not human.
