Arthur Conley

Lee Roberts, better known by his stage name Arthur Conley, was an American soul singer born on January 4, 1946 in McIntosh, Georgia. He started his career as part of the group The Soul Clan before embarking on a successful solo career. Conley released several singles at various record labels including Atlanta's Fame Records and Baltimore's Ru-Jac Records.

In 1967, he signed with ATCO Records where he achieved great success with hit singles like "Sweet Soul Music". Conley continued to release music with ATCO until the early 1970s when he switched to another label called Bell Records. In 1975, he made the decision to move to Europe and settled in the Netherlands after living briefly in the UK and Belgium.

In addition to his musical talents, Conley legally changed his name to Lee Roberts in 1980 as a tribute to his middle name and his mother's maiden name. He released an album titled [a3518452] & [a4826894], which was recorded on January 8, 1980. Throughout his career, Arthur Conley drew inspiration from artists such as Don Covay, Wilson Pickett, and Solomon Burke among others.
