Roy Haynes

Roy Owen Haynes is an American jazz drummer and bandleader, born on March 13, 1925, in Roxbury, Massachusetts. He began his professional career in 1945 and has since worked with some of the most influential musicians in jazz history.

Haynes gained recognition for his collaborations with saxophonist Lester Young and saxophonist Charlie Parker's quintet. Throughout his career, he has also performed with renowned artists such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, and Pat Metheny.

In addition to working with established musicians, Haynes has led his own groups under the name Hip Ensemble. His recent recordings as a leader have received Grammy nominations. Despite his age, Haynes continues to perform worldwide and was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.
