ABC is a British pop band from Sheffield, UK, formed in 1980. They are best known for their hits "The Look of Love" and "When Smokey Sings" in the 1980s. Since 1997, ABC has been the solo project of singer and founder Martin Fry, who collaborates with various musicians.

Originally starting as Vice Versa, Mark White (guitar) and Stephen Singleton (saxophone) released an EP called "Music 4" in 1979. Later on, they invited Martin Fry to join the band, which then transformed into ABC.

In his early days at Sheffield University, Fry ran his own fanzine called Modern Drugs. It was during this time that he interviewed members of Vice Versa and eventually became their vocalist. The lineup also included David Robinson on drums and Mark Lickley on bass.

After five years of radio silence, Martin Fry regrouped his group ABC in 1997 for the successful comeback album&nbsp;Skyscraping. After a break with more dance-pop oriented albums, the band returned to the beloved and catchy sound of perhaps the ultimate new romantic pop album,&nbsp;The Lexicon of Love.&nbsp;

On&nbsp;Skyscraping, Martin Fry has a dream collaboration with another hero of early 80s pop music: Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17. The result is a wonderful return to the glory days of ABC, but this time with half an eye on the new millennium. The album spawned three singles, all of which reached the UK Singles Chart, and brought the band back into the public eye.
