Flight of the Conchords is a New Zealand-based comedy band composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Their unique blend of comedy and music has garnered them international acclaim. They gained popularity through their BBC radio series and later, an American television series on HBO. With their witty lyrics and catchy tunes, Flight of the Conchords has become a household name in the world of comedy music.

The duo humorously referred to themselves as "New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo." Despite this self-deprecating title, they have managed to capture the hearts of fans worldwide with their hilarious performances. Today, they proudly hold the title of being "the almost award-winning fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand."

The label was an outgrowth of [a=Bruce Pavitt]'s Olympia, WA based (print) fanzine, which became the well respected cassettezine of the same name. 

After his move to Seattle he ran a music column in the Seattle Rocket also called Sub Pop.

After initial forays into the record label world with a [a=Green River] 7" (not officially on Sub Pop) and the Sub Pop 100 LP, the label exploded onto the indie scene with four influential colored vinyl 7"s which included [a=Mudhoney]'s "Touch Me I'm Sick" which made the year-end top 10 playlist of nearly every music journalist in the world.

Subsequent hyping of the label in the English music press put them on the map, and grunge was born.

Too popular to be considered a cult concern anymore, New Zealand comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have seen their rib-tickling, genre-spanning songs land them a successful show for Radio 2, two HBO television series and win a clutch of awards, including a Grammy for their Distant Future EP of 2007. I Told You I Was Freaky is the second album from the pair of Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement, the follow-up to 2008’s generally well received eponymous debut, which featured songs from the first HBO series. Following suit, this collection compiles ditties from season two. With the songs in question more integrated into the narratives of said episodes, appreciating them without first seeing the shows might prove a struggle. Existing fans are sure to appreciate the humorous asides, developed wordplay and excellent timing of McKenzie and Clement, whose sarcastic put-downs to each other can easily have the listener laughing aloud, above the sound of their headphones. But those who’ve avoided the Conchords to date (who are you, exactly?) will, largely, wonder what the fuss is about. You Don’t Have to Be a Prostitute, Sugalumps and Fashion is Danger seem shallow pastiches of Police-like pop-reggae, Timbaland-echoing squelch-hop and Pet Shop Boys electro respectively when taken out of context.
