Grateful Dead were an American rock band that formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1965. With a career spanning from 1965 to 1995, they left an indelible mark on the music industry. Originally established in 1964 as "The Warlocks," the band quickly gained popularity for their unique sound and improvisational style.The Grateful Dead's music encompassed various genres including rock, folk, blues, and psychedelic rock. Their live performances were legendary, known for their extended jams and eclectic setlists that kept fans coming back for more. The band's members included Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan.Throughout their career,&nbsp;Grateful Dead released numerous albums that became iconic within the counterculture movement of the time. Some of their most notable works include "American Beauty," "Workingman's Dead," and "Europe '72." Even after disbanding in 1995 following Garcia's untimely death, their legacy continues to resonate with music lovers worldwide.

Rhino Records, also known as Rhino, is a renowned music label that was established in 1973 by Richard Foos. Starting as a record store in Westwood California, Rhino quickly gained recognition with its first successful release "Go To Rhino Records" by Wild Man Fischer in 1975. The label's early logo featured "Rocky the Rhino" and focused on novelty, surf, local new wave bands, and reissues of out-of-print records from other labels.

Under the guidance of Bill Inglot for production, Ken Perry for mastering, and A&R team Gary Stewart and James Austin, Rhino expanded its catalog to include a wide range of reissues by the mid-1980s. The label underwent a logo redesign during this time period to simply "Rhino". In 1984, Rhino released its first CD and became known for manufacturing high-quality CDs made by Sanyo (1984-85) and various manufacturers from Japan or Switzerland thereafter.

In 1985, Rhino entered into a distribution deal with Capitol Records which lasted until 1992. This partnership allowed access to Capitol's back catalog and led to the release of reissues of old Capitol albums. Additionally, EMI and Rhino acquired the Roulette family of labels in 1989. As their deal with Capitol came to an end in 1992, Time-Warner offered an opportunity for growth. Half of the label was sold to Time-Warner

The Grateful Dead forged its legend on the road, traveling countless miles between 1965 and 1995 to perform a world record 2,318 shows for millions of devoted fans. The band’s refusal to ever play a song the same way twice has endeared generations of fans, many of whom prefer certain live versions of songs over their studio counterparts, and garnered the popular phrase among Dead Heads: “There is nothing like a Grateful Dead concert.” The live albums the band released during its 30-year career are the primary source for the collection, including tracks like Bertha from Grateful Dead (Skull and Roses) (1971), Fire On The Mountain from Dead Set (1981), and The Music Never Stopped from One From the Vault (1991). A testament to its ongoing popularity, the revered double-album Europe ’72 (1972), is represented by no less than five tracks, including Sugar Magnolia, Jack Straw and a searing rendition of Morning Dew. Other performances on the set were selected from the growing number of live releases that have emerged since the death of founding member Jerry Garcia in 1995. Some of those recordings include Touch Of Grey from Truckin’ Up To Buffalo (2005), a 1990 version of Eyes Of The World with saxophonist Branford Marsalis featured on Wake Up To Find Out (2014), and Estimated Prophet, which debuted earlier this year as part of Cornell 5/8/77, a recording of the Grateful Dead’s mythic show at Cornell University in 1977, thought by many to be the band’s greatest live performance.
