Gregory Isaacs, also known as the Cool Ruler, was a famous Jamaican "Lovers" Reggae Singer. He began his recording career at the age of 18 in 1969 and continued until 2010. In 1972, he founded the Label with [a45924]. Born on July 15, 1951, in Fletchers Land, Kingston, Jamaica, Gregory Isaacs left a lasting impact on the reggae music scene. His unique style and smooth vocals made him one of the most influential artists in the genre.

Throughout his career, Gregory Isaacs captivated audiences with his soulful voice and heartfelt lyrics. He gained recognition for his romantic ballads and became known as the "Cool Ruler" for his suave persona on stage. His music resonated with fans around the world and earned him a dedicated following.

Tragically, Gregory Isaacs passed away on October 25, 2010, in London, UK. Despite his untimely death, his legacy lives on through his timeless music. His contributions to reggae continue to inspire new generations of artists.

Doctor Bird is a music label that was founded in the UK by Graeme Goodall, an Australian sound engineer and original shareholder of Island Records. The label was revived by Trojan Records in 1970 for three releases before being relaunched in 2017 as a division of Cherry Red Records. Doctor Bird specializes in vintage Jamaican sounds licensed from the catalogue of Trojan Records.
Graeme Goodall played a significant role in the Jamaican music scene, engineering sessions at various studios and producing countless recordings during the ska era. He also formed other labels such as Pyramid Records and Attack to promote reggae music. Despite relocating to Atlanta, Georgia in the 1970s, Goodall continued his involvement with music until his passing in 2014.
Today, Doctor Bird continues to bring Jamaican rocksteady and other vintage sounds to music enthusiasts worldwide through their curated selection of releases. With its rich history and dedication to preserving iconic Jamaican music, Doctor Bird remains a respected authority on this genre.

After making his recording debut in the late 60s, Gregory Isaacs recorded for a number of leading Jamaican record producers without ever achieving significant sustained success. His fortunes changed dramatically early in 1974, however, after he began collaborating with Alvin ‘G.G.’ Ranglin, who over the previous six years had established a reputation as one of the island’s most respected hit-makers. The partnership immediately paid dividends with the release of the singer’s smash hit, ‘Love Is Overdue’, the popularity of which spurred Ranglin to record have the singer record his hugely popular debut long player.

The LP provides the focus of this 2CD set, which also includes the remainder of Isaacs’s recordings with Ranglin from the period, along with the very best of the producer’s output from 1973, featured on disc 2. With 14 tracks unavailable on any format since their original release, this is a crucial collection for fans of the Cool Ruler and classic early 70s reggae sounds.
