Strawberry

Strawberry was a renowned mastering and lacquer cutting studio based in London, UK. Established in May 1978 and operating until 1983, it was founded by Eric Graham and Graham Gouldman of the iconic band 10cc. The studio was a brainchild of their manager Ric Dixon, along with Melvyn Abrahams and David Moores as managing directors. Designed by Tom Hidley, Strawberry boasted state-of-the-art facilities and became one of the most highly regarded mastering studios in the UK.

At Strawberry, records were cut using top-notch equipment including the Neumann VMS 70 lathe with Ortofon CPS cutting control unit and Ortofon cutter head. The expertise of talented engineers like Julian Mills, Melvyn Abrahams, Sean Davies, Steve Rooke, and Jack Adams contributed to the studio's exceptional sound quality. Their dedication ensured that Strawberry stood out as a go-to destination for artists seeking superior mastering services.

In addition to its main name, Strawberry also appeared on releases as "Strawberry Mastering Lounge." It is important not to confuse this label with other studios such as Strawberry Studios South in Dorking or Strawberry Studios France in Hérouville. Four albums, 15 Singles, Out-Takes and Rarities. In 1971 Matt Monro left Capitol Records as he was unhappy with decisions being made out in the USA. He re-signed with EMI Records and stayed with them for the rest of his career. This set pulls together every single recording made for EMI during that time including both previously released and unreleased out-takes and alternate versions. As a bonus there are also jingles and a pair of previously unheard live recordings from Australia in 1981 featuring songs that Matt never recorded in the studio. When Matt’s second EMI LP (released on their Columbia imprint) The Other Side Of The Stars was issued after two years sitting on the shelf, the tapes had, in the most part, only received a rough mix and it was this that made its way into print.

This release sees the whole album (and two other songs from the same sessions) remixed from the 16 track session reels. Previous issues of the albums For The Present and The Other Side Of The Stars have featured tracks taken from vinyl dubs. For this edition they are taken from the original first generation mixdown masters. Remastered from the original master tapes by Richard Moore at Mint Audio.
