The Drones are a British punk band that formed in October 1976 in Manchester and later relocated to London. Originally known as Rockslide, the band released a single in October 1975 before transitioning into punk rock. The classic line-up from 1976-1979 consisted of *M. J. Drone* on vocals and guitar, *Gus Gangrene* on lead guitar, *Whispa* on bass, and *Pete Purrfect* on drums.
After disbanding around 1982, The Drones reformed in 1996 for the Holidays In The Sun Festival and went on to perform gigs in Japan and the USA. However, tragedy struck when M.J Drone (Mike Howells) passed away on January 10th, 2013.
The Drones have been influential within the punk genre and have drawn comparisons to artists such as Gareth Liddiard, Rowland S. Howard, Beasts Of Bourbon, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Jack Ladder, Dick Diver, You Am I, Magic Dirt,and many others.

Bang! is a Spanish independent record label based in Santurtzi, Spain. Established in 1997/1998, it has been founded and managed by two talented individuals. The label is known for its dedication to promoting unique and diverse music from various genres. With the support of Munsterama, Bang! has successfully marketed and distributed numerous albums by *artists* who have gained recognition for their exceptional talent and creativity.

Gala Mill is considered as the ‘Exile on Main Street’ in The Drones’ discography. In 2014, Flavorwire included the track "Sixteen Straws" on their list of "The 50 Best Album Closing Tracks Ever". In 2021, Rolling Stone Australia listed Gala Mill at number 155 on their list of "The 200 Greatest Australian Albums of All Time" (one of two Drones albums on the list). Gala Mill is the third studio album by Australian band The Drones, which was released in September 2006. Recorded in an abandoned mill in Tasmania, it was their last album to feature founding member Rui Pereira and the first to feature Mike Noga on drums. The music, which makes "an epic leap beyond garage rock", adds influences from folk rock and contemporary folk music to their usual punk blues style. Gareth Liddiard's lyrics for the album are centered more on Australia's colonial and recent history, evident in tracks such as "Jezebel", "Words From The Executioner To Alexander Pearce" and "Sixteen Straws". Much like its predecessor, the album received critical acclaim from sources both within and outside Australia, with much of it centered on the album's raw musical style and Liddiard's dark lyricism.
