The Mekons are a British rock band that formed in 1977 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Originally inspired by the villainous Venusian from the British comic strip Dan Dare, they adopted their name as a tribute. In the mid-1980s, The Mekons transitioned their style to folk and folk rock.

With a career spanning several decades, The Mekons have become an influential force in the music industry. Their unique blend of rock and folk elements has garnered them a dedicated following worldwide.

Formed in the late 1970s as an art collective, The Mekons are one of the longest-running and most prolific of the first-wave British punk rock bands. The band has experienced several changes in line-up since their formation 40 years ago, and although the current line-up of "Mekons" are writing and recording music, playing shows and touring, the original "The Mekons 77" have reunited and are playing live shows for a limited time. Following the release of new single Still Waiting, and the success of Mekonville - a weekend-long music festival organised and curated by The Mekons themselves – the re-united 1977 line-up have continued to play live shows, and have now recorded their first album together since 1980
