Cherry Red

Cherry Red is a British label that was founded by Iain McNay in 1978. Also known as Cherry Red Records, this label has become associated with the company Music and Media Group. With the label code LC 6730, Cherry Red has made a name for itself in the music industry. It is important to note that this label should not be confused with the US label of the same name.

The Monochrome Set formed in 1978 and were influential in the post-punk scene. They released albums on various labels, including Virgin offshoot DinDisc and Cherry Red Records. After splitting in 1985, they reunited multiple times for live gigs and studio recordings. In 2010, the band reformed full time and has since toured extensively worldwide while releasing new studio albums. Currently signed to German label Tapete Records, they celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2018 with a global tour and a box set compilation of their work up until 1985. In 2020, another compilation box set was released covering their output from the 1990-1995 period.

The Monochrome Set were widely recognised as one of the best post-punk bands of the late ‘70s and ‘80s, with the album Eligible Bachelors regarded as one of their finest pieces of work. Cherry Red have paid Eligible Bachelors the respect it deserves by carefully packaging the album alongside The Monochrome Set’s fine live album Fin (AKA The Good Life), and a whole host of singles, B-sides and rarities, including many hard to find BBC sessions of the band in their absolute prime. All this has been remastered and beautifully packaged for the album’s re-issue, and is something sure to please long-term Monochrome Set fans and brand-new followers alike.
