BMG Rights Management, formerly known as Bertelsmann Music Group, is a global music conglomerate with a rich history in the industry. Originally formed in 1985 as a joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and RCA, BMG has since evolved into a powerhouse of music production and distribution.

In 1986, Bertelsmann acquired full ownership of RCA and Arista Records through the purchase of their joint venture's stock from General Electric. The following year, these labels were merged under the umbrella of Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), solidifying its position as a major player in the music world.

In 2004, BMG joined forces with Sony Music to create Sony BMG Music Entertainment. However, in 2008, Bertelsmann sold its stake in the company, leading to the formation of BMG Rights Management. Today, BMG continues to thrive as a leading record label and distributor worldwide.

Voïvod is a thrash metal band formed in 1982 in Jonquière, Quebec, Canada. Influenced by the NWOBHM, Hardcore and Progressive Rock, they are known for their unique use of unusual time signatures, dissonant guitar chords and thought-provoking lyrical themes inspired by post-apocalyptic literature, cold war politics and science fiction.

After some lineup changes in the early 1990s, guitarist Denis D'Amour and drummer Michel Langevin continued with new member Eric "E-Force" Forrest on bass and vocals. The band went on hiatus in 2001 but reformed in 2002 with original vocalist Denis "Snake" Bélanger returning and ex-Metallica member Jason "Jasonic" Newsted joining as bassist.

In 2005, Voïvod faced a tragic loss when guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour passed away after battling colon cancer. However, the band released their twelfth studio album in 2009 featuring his last recorded music. Despite this setback, Voïvod continues to perform live and release albums to critical acclaim. Their album [m1425025] even reached number 8 on Rolling Stone's Best Metal Albums of 2018 list.

It’s been an exhilarating 40-year ride for Voivod, the Jonquière, Quebec quartet that has, over the years, defied the odds, faced tragedy head on and also seen the band rise above many of the contemporaries to a point where the band’s intricate progressively fuelled heavy metal sound also brings with it honours and awards. The 2018 Voivod album, The Wake, won the band a Juno Award for Heavy Metal Album of The Year, while the previous year Away had picked up the Visionary Award at that year’s Progressive Music Awards in London.

The music contained in this set proves that Voivod were very much pioneers of the sound, as their own music became more refined and experimental. You can hear the development of the band’s sound over the three albums contained here (Rrröööaarrr, Killing Technology and Dimension Hatröss). In the five year span from 1984’s War And Pain debut to 1989’s Nothingface, Voivod forged a defiant progressive metal sound that they would expand upon with later albums and ensure that they are one of the most exhilarating metal bands in existence today. Forgotten In Space is a deluxe celebration of Voivod’s, Noise Records discography and is the definitive collection of their recorded work plus rare and previously unreleased material.
